Turn a PDF into a quiz: pick the pages, get the exercises

Drop in a textbook chapter, a worksheet or a handout as a PDF and tick the pages you want, up to 10 in one source. Typed pages go straight in and scans are read by AI. Temaly writes exercises from them and gives you one link for your class, or a worksheet to print.

How to make a quiz from a PDF

  1. Drop in or pick the PDF

On a computer, drag the PDF onto the page or use the “Photo or PDF” button. On a phone, tap “PDF”. It can be up to 60 MB and must not be password-protected.

  2. Tick the pages you want

The pages show as thumbnails, so you can scroll a whole book to your chapter. Tick up to 10 pages in one source; photos you already added count too. Typed pages go straight in, with their own text. Scans and pages with a large picture are read by AI.

  3. Say who it is for

Subject, level, language and what to practise. Temaly drafts the set from the text of your pages; add, remove or rewrite any exercise.

  4. Share one link or print it

Students open the link on any phone, type their name and answer, with no account. Answers are marked automatically and you see each one. Prefer paper? Print the set as a worksheet with an answer key.

PDFs teachers bring, and what comes out

  • A textbook chapter as a PDF

Tick the six pages on the water cycle. Out come multiple-choice questions on the key terms, true-or-false on the details and a put-in-order exercise for the stages.

  • A reading worksheet that came as a PDF

Pick the page with the passage. You get comprehension questions, matching for the vocabulary and a gap fill, answered online instead of on paper.

  • A scanned page from an old textbook

A scan has no text layer, only a picture of the text, so AI reads the picture of the page. You get questions on what it says, and an unreadable page can be tried again or taken out.

  • A university handout

Lecture notes as a PDF: multiple-choice questions on the main concepts, short answers in the student’s own words and a printed version with the answer key for revision.

What happens to your PDF

  • The PDF stays in your browser. Only the pages you tick are sent, as pictures, with their text when a page has typed text.
  • Typed pages go straight in with their own text; AI does not have to read them.
  • Scans and pages with a large picture are read by AI, one page at a time.
  • Up to 10 pages in one source, mixed with photos if you like. Up to 60 MB, not password-protected.
  • You choose what students see of the pages: everything, only the text, or nothing.

What to know before you start

  • Drop or pick a PDF and tick up to 10 of its pages; photos you already added count too. Typed pages go straight in; scans and pages with large pictures are read by AI. Up to 60 MB, no password.
  • Free to start, with no sign-up. There is a daily fair-use limit on AI drafting, shared by everyone on the same network.

  • The interface is in English, Romanian, Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Kazakh. Each set of exercises is written in the language you choose for it.

Questions teachers ask

Can I make a quiz from a PDF?

Yes. Drop the PDF in or pick it, then tick the pages you want, up to 10 in one source. Pages with typed text go straight in; scans and pictures of text are read by AI. The PDF can be up to 60 MB and must not be password-protected.

Is the PDF quiz maker free?

Yes. You can start at once, without signing up.

How many pages can I use?

Up to 10 pages in one source. A long PDF is fine up to 60 MB: scroll to your chapter and tick its pages. Photos you add to the same source count towards the 10. For more pages, make another set.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. A scan has no text layer, only a picture of the text, so AI reads the picture of every page you tick. A clear scan of a printed page works best. If a page cannot be read, you can try it again or take it out.

What if my PDF is too big or has a password?

Over 60 MB, add just the pages you need as photos instead. For a password-protected PDF, remove the password and add it again.

Do students see the PDF?

You choose. For each link you share, students see everything (the pages and their text), only the text, or nothing of the source, just the questions. The PDF file itself is never sent to Temaly.

Can I print the exercises?

Yes. Print the set as a worksheet with an answer key, or save it as a PDF. Students can also answer online from one link.

Do students need an account?

No. They open the link you share, type their name and answer on any phone, tablet or computer.

Can I use a Word file?

A Word file is not read as a file. Save it as a PDF from Word and add that, or paste its text.
